Hey guys! I wanted to share an experience with you that I recently had. I FINALLY went to New Orleans & baby, it did not disappoint.

New Orleans recently had their 300th anniversary, crazy right? It explains so much and why they are so RICH on culture and pride! The energy there was amazing. I'd go back every year, just because. If you have never heard their story or know their history, please read up on it. It's so interesting to see how places were formed and shaped into what they are now! Im going to link a website that can give some info; it's a quick but interesting read .

Okay- back on course of why I am writing this blog post (lol). I mainly went because I've always wanted beignets and I wanted the AUTHENTIC ones. So, I got them. The first ones we got were from Cafe Du Monde, I don't have a picture of them because unfortunately, it wasn't my cup of tea. We had our mouth set because of the amount of good reviews we had heard on social media and from watching Princess and the Frog, I was expecting something light and fluffy. It was more funnel cake textured- more crunchy. It could be a number of reasons why- I know they're a huge tourist spot, long lines, covid and etc.. I'd be willing to give them another try!

However, we went on a ghost tour to the Masonic Temple cemetery and the Charity Hospital cemetery and Katrina Memorial ground (great experience) - on our tour we stopped for food and a bathroom break at a spot named Morning Call. We were throughly impressed with these beignets. They were light, fluffy and worth the wait- which was about 5 minutes.

Since we had to wait for them to finish- the gentleman did bring them to our table. 10/10, I do recommend. If for whatever reason you are reading this and do go- have cash! They do have an ATM on site, though.

The first night- we didn't really get any New Orleans specific food because 1. it was travel day. There was a pizza place right beside the hotel so we got pizza and wings which were amazing and 2. we ended up drinking too much and going to the subway right beside the hotel. Literally- tore up; the drinks are a beast of their own.

Next stop was Lucy's Retired Surfers Bar and Restaurant. Babyyyyy- These Cabo Shrimp and Grits were it. Thats all. They were IT! I don't even like grits BUT with this jalapeño and honey butter sauce- ill eat a pair of shoes if it was drizzled over them. Presentation 10/10, FLAVOR 10/10. I won't steer you wrong. It was the perfect amount of spice with sweet. My plate was the LAST to go because I was making sure I was getting every last drop of the sauce I could with the grits (lol). If I paid for it, I'm gonna make sure I get my moneys worth.

Also, I got the fried calamari with the Thai chili sauce. It doesn't matter where I go- if they have fried calamari with the Thai chili, I'm getting it! They were fried to perfection and they even had whole squid fried (bottom left of picture); 10/10. I ate every last one including the peppers.

We went to Riverwalk- which was within walking distance of our hotel. We went just to look around and ended up shopping and getting food. We stopped at a place called Green Leafs and Bananas & picked up a panini. It was the Turkey chipotle panini with avocado, pickled red onion, fresh cilantro, chipotle mayo and etc.. so good, unless I was just hungry from shopping. Who knows? lol.

Last but not least- the drinks. They make sure you taste your alcohol. I was tipsy before we even left the pizza place and we had just hopped off the plane no more than a hour ago.

If you don't do anything else in life- please visit New Orleans- just to experience the culture, the energy, and the history. You will leave refreshed and FULL. Remember: drink responsibly, eat as much as your heat desires and always tell the spirits bye and that they cannot come with you (no, seriously. lol).
